GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF EDUCATION CENTRE FOR NANNY AND CONTINUING EDUCATION
Nanny and Continuing Education Programme is premised on the demanding
specifications based on the current needs of the society, where career
professionalization and scientific development has affected stability and healthy
growth of families/homes on moral and economic dimensions. The programme is
structured on a two-base levels of
(a) Auxiliary and
(b) Professional cadres.
It is a one year
certificate programme that carries a thirty-two credit load and offers both academic and practical course domains. Candidates eligible for the training
are interested men and women with at least First School Leaving Certificate
(FSLC). Our target groups are nannies, nurses, teachers, mothers, unemployed
youth, out of school pupils, retired but not tired Civil Servants and different
categories of workers. Age is no barrier. A profile dossier on candidates placed on
the website will ensure opportunities for employment after training.
Continuing Education Centre is a place where we intend to change and
uplift the traditional status of service to that reminiscent of technological modem
development in the world especially in Nigeria.
The centre seeks to
inculcate a new mode of service orientation in tandem with
developmental strides and needs of society.
The mission is to develop people to conceptualize service on trending innovative live style that demands better service structure, system and process of its rendition in families, school, hospitals elderly people homes and society at large.

A REPORT ON THE INAUGURATION OF THE CENTRE FOR NANNY
AND CONTINUING EDUCATION ON 11 NOVEMBER, 2019
The Inauguration ceremony of the Centre for Nanny and Continuing Education took place on Monday l1th November, 2019 at about 10.30am in the classroom of the centre. I
The ceremony started with an opening prayer led by the Vice Chancellor – Rev. Fr.
Anieke. This was followed by an opening speech by the Dean,
Prof. A . Eze. Fr. Kanife prayed over the kola.
After this, the coordinator of the Centre, Dr. Vero Mogboh presented her address.
In her address which was very detailed and well presented, she left no stone
unturned concerning the mission and vision of the Centre.
This was followed by the Vice Chancellor’s speech. In his speech, he expressed his ‘gratitude to God for making this dream come true. He congratulated all the
students and encouraged them to take their studies seriously as graduation
certificate will be given to only students who deserved it.
He added that the inspiration to encourage the take off of this course in our
university came as a result of his experience in Austria where you must have a
certificate for any kind of job you do to earn a living there such as a cook, a
cleaner, a gardener etc. Before he ended his speech he said that the name – GPN –
meaning Godfrey Professional Nanny will be on the ID card of each of the student.
We later went out for the cutting of the ribbon a symbol of the official opening of the Centre for Nanny and continuing Education. One of the students was given
scholarship by the Vice Chancellor. This was followed by group photographs.
The Assistant Coordinator of the Centre, Sr. Martina Ene introduced Mrs.
Nwokoro to the Vice Chancellor.
She works with an NGO who gave three of our students scholarship.
We are very appreciative of the dynamism of our Vice Chancellor Very Rev. Prof.
Dr. Christian Anieke for this programme. He is a pragmatic, ebullient and
practical enthusiast of human development. The Dean of the Faculty of Education,
Professor Aaron Eze has left no stones unturned in his support of the establishment
of the Centre. ; We owe him appreciative kudos. May God bless the Vice
Chancellor and the Dean of our Faculty. I hope people will continuously grab this opportunity for raising the dignity of labor
