GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY COMMENCES WORK ON THE PROVISION OF 24 HOURS WATER, ELECTRICITY AND INTERNET SERVICES AT THE UGWUOMU CAMPUS OF GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY, ENUGU

The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye university, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke says military action alone will not be a solution to the insecurity in the country.The Vice Chancellor who made the remark in Enugu while briefing newsmen on the achievements of institution noted that the problem in Nigeria needed multi approach. Reverend Father Anieke announced that work has commenced on the provision of 24 hours water, electricity and internet services at the Ugwuomu campus of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu.“Already arrangements are being concluded for the flag off next month of activities at university’s European Business Park which occupies 50 hectares of land at the Ugwuomu campus of the institution” the Vice Chancellor stated, stressing that the university will commence the packaging of water in the campus. He emphasized the need for practical life for the youths, pointing out that “this was the reason for the establishment of the scholars’ center for commerce, industry and agriculture in the university to train students in international business and assist them to register their businesses while they are studying”.The Vice Chancellor was optimistic that the university’s European Business Park would change the business landscape of Nigeria with many European companies having their seats in the park.He said the university has created various platforms for students to benefit from the various partnership programmes with foreign institutions.Reverend Father Professor Anieke described the appointment of the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Edwin Onyeneje as the Rector of the new Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo, Igbo-Etiti local government area of Enugu State as recognition of the institution’s contributions to the growth of education in Nigeria.He described the 12th matriculation of the university as a huge success, stressing that 630 students took part in the exercise. Meanwhile, the Umuchikelu Cultural Group of the Institute of Ecumenical Education, Thinkers Corner, Enugu, an arm of Godfrey Okoye University and its group of institutions has emerged the winner of the cultural dance competition organised to mark the Cultural Day of the institute.The group went home with a cash prize of fifty thousand naira, courtesy of the Provost of the Institute and Director of the group of institutions, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke.The second position went to the group that presented Effik cultural dance and received thirty thousand naira while the group that presented dance drama took the third prize and got twenty thousand naira.
The Director of Academic Planning and Services, of the group of institutions, Sister Professor MarySylvia Nwachukwu who represented the Provost, presented the prizes to the winners.In a message to the event, Reverend Father Professor Anieke said the management would continue to encourage the spirit of ecumenism in the students.The Provost urged the students to channel their activities to their course of study. He promised a reward for a former student of the institute who presented an architectural design during the cultural show.
