Nigerians seeking political positions are advised to be innovative and think outside the box as well as engage on issues that affect the people positively.

The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke gave the advice in Enugu during a seminar on Good Governance and Security in Nigeria organized by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke reminded the politicians that governance is not buying and selling, and enjoined politicians to seek for the right things for the people and not to think only of their Party’s interest.

The VC frowned at the introduction of different exchange rates, marginalization of the people, and unnecessary borrowing in the country.

He urged those to be elected to ensure that they are physically strong and mentally sound to govern the people.

In a remark the chairman of the occasion and Vice Chancellor of ESUT, Prof. Aloysius Okoli commended the Catholic diocese of Enugu for organizing the seminar, stressing that the problem of the country was lost of values and those he described as bandits becoming leaders.

Most Rev. Dr. Onaga reminded the priests that their role is to sensitize the people to vote for the right people and not to be card carrying members of the political parties.

According to the Bishop, the people must vote for a new Nigeria in 2023 so that the residents breathe fresh air.

The Bishop made it clear that contrary to allegations, no group in the diocese has received money to support a particular party or politician.

He urged the priests to see all politicians as members of their constituency.

In a remark, one of the priests, Associate Prof. Rev. Fr. Ikechukwu Ani wondered why the opposition political parties have failed to play their roles as those in opposition.

The event was attended by representatives of various political parties in Enugu State.
