Every academic session, brings an influx of young, dynamic and diverse persons into a beautiful community of the first and fastest growing catholic university in the east, Godfrey Okoye University. Godfrey Okoye University officially welcomes her fresh students into the institution at the 10th matriculation ceremony held on January 26, 2019 at the Justice Cordelia Chukwurah Convocation Arena, Thinkers’ Corner, Enugu. A total of 500 undergraduates and 100 postgraduate students take the matriculation oath of 2018/2019 academic session, confirming again GO Uni reputation for quality education and moral excellence.
In his address titled “A beautiful milestone”, the Vice chancellor, Very Rev. Father Professor Christian Anieke, likens the institution to the biblical mustard seed. Highlighting the growth of the university which started in 2009 with just 215 students, and has since then grown exponentially with about 3000 students and over 660 dedicated staff members, postgraduate school and a law faculty approved by the NUC. Prof Anieke says the institution now attracts both local and international partnership and recognition. Worthy of note, according to the VC, is the STEP (link) project, an annual training programme organized by the university in collaboration with German and Nigerian specialist aimed at equipping students become entrepreneurs, U.W. Linsi-Stiftung scholarships and the Multi-billion Naira poverty alleviation program of the European Union, ICMPD, and private partners in collaboration with GO Uni, for which the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo expressed his gratitude recently at a summit organized in Vienna (Austria) for African heads of states. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8ll2HJtCfo
The Vice Chancellor also congratulates the matriculating students while urging them to make judicious use of their time at the institution. Expressing his gratitude for their choice of the university, he also reassures both parents and students of the university’s commitment to provide qualitative education to equip their wards or children to be useful to themselves and society.
In attendance are notable dignitaries from all walks of life. Among them is the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Enugu, Most Rev.Dr. Ernest Obodo, who delivers the closing address.
Highlights of the event is the unveiling of the programme of activities for the university’s 10th year anniversary, performances by the university’s choir, drama, comedy and cutting of matriculation cake.
